Built on Boards – Introducing Two Unique Boards Designed by Danny Davis and Mark Gonzales
You know the cliché: great minds think alike.
Well, Danny Davis and legendary artist and skateboarder Mark Gonzales are definitely on the same wavelength. Introducing the Deep Thinker and Free Thinker. Two unique boards, boasting brand new art from Mark Gonzales, and two designs tuned specifically to the taste of Danny Davis.
Few humans truly embody the concept of balance like Travelin’ Dan, who blends a vision of style and creativity with podium-crushing runs at snowboarding’s most renowned events. That balance led to an idea: not one, but two signature boards, a mini-quiver, graced by the artistic hands of one of the board world’s most revered artists and pioneers.
“I’ve always loved watching Gonz’s skateboarding,” Danny explains, “and have always had an appreciation for the simplicity and randomness of his art. There was no, “hey I’m thinking of this,” or direction for these boards. It was a very organic process. He started by sending me some stuff that he’d been working on. Like, what do you think of this? What do you think of that? It ended up being a real big collection of Gonz art that we basically got to pick from.
It ended up being a type of art that I’ve never seen him do. It has this old school vibe to it. Simple on top, clean all around. I’m stoked on it.
Each board brings a unique and distinct attitude, each stemming directly from an aspect of Danny’s mind and approach to snowboarding.
“I liked what the Easy Livin’ (Danny’s previous signature model) offered for the park,” he says, “but I wanted a board that floated in pow and rode groomers a lot better. We couldn’t do it with just one board, so we made the Free Thinker for that softer twin tipped park feel, and then the Deep Thinker for the freeride, turning, carving, pow-riding approach. They’re both awesome to have in the collection, and make a nice little two-board quiver.”
All boards feature 100% FSC™ Certified wood cores and bio-based epoxy.
That's a big deal. It means that all the wood in these snowboards has been approved by the Forest Stewardship Council, ensuring that it has the least possible impact on our planet's forest habitats. Furthermore, they use Burton's Super Sap® Epoxy, a board resin using bio-based materials for a 50% reduced carbon footprint. We spend a lot of time talking about innovation at Burton. It's a commitment we've upheld since day one. Today, sustainability and innovation go hand in hand, which means that every step forward comes with a reduced impact on the environment.
The Thinkers are the culmination of so many forces: Danny’s need for versatility, the Gonz’s artistic expressions, and Burton’s dedication to innovative board design and construction. Oh, and did we mention they're backed by a 3-year warranty? Put your mind to work, and imagine good turns ahead. If anything’s worth thinking twice about, we’ll have to go with that.
